      <image:title>About Us - Julian Evans</image:title>
<image:caption>Julian is one of Axioma’s grant strategists, living on the traditional territory of the lək̓ʷəŋən peoples (Victoria, BC). He brings a background in writing, publishing and education, as well as a long-standing dedication to ecological and social justice. Julian holds a PhD from Western University, where he studied the involvement of the senses in ecosystems and place. He approached this research by examining cross-cultural dialogues between Indigenous and Western philosophies of imagination and perception, with a focus on listening and sonic awareness. He spent three years teaching courses in philosophy, political theory and environmental studies at the University of Victoria and Vancouver Island University. His courses consistently received outstanding student feedback for their accessibility and for his capacity to translate depth and complexity into engaging student experiences through a team-based, active learning environment. Alongside his professional work, Julian is a sound artist who documents acoustic environments through field recording practices aimed at expanding awareness of nonhuman soundscapes. He leads soundwalks that invite participants into attentive, embodied engagement with the more-than-human world and he also helps coordinate the Victoria Bird Language Club. Julian grounds all his work in listening, a commitment to uplifting community voices with fidelity and respect, and a deep conviction that powerful storytelling can move resources toward meaningful and systemic change.</image:caption>
